6 things to do in Perranporth and the surrounding areas when it’s raining!

While I’m sat here looking at things to do tomorrow while it’s throwing it down outside! While I love the sound of the rain on the roof of a caravan, I’d like it to stop now!! But it means I’ve been able to have a look at different things around us and I’ve come up with a few things to do if you’re in Cornwall, it’s raining and you’re not flush with cash.

  • Perranporth museum. This is a little gem, it’s free to enter and the staff are lovely. There were a couple of different activities for the children to do too. It only took about an hour but that was enough to dodge the rain.
  • Royal Cornwall museum in Truro. This is an absolute find!!! Under 18s get in free and over 18s are £7.50 each all which includes a year long pass. There are activities and stations for the children to get stuck in to and loads of fascinating things to see. On top of that, there is a rail to hang your coat when you go in, stools to borrow, sensory bags and ear defenders for those who need it and in the toilets there are toilet training seats for you to use if your little one is too little for a normal sized toilet! I can’t recommend this highly enough!!
  • Healey’s Cornish Cider Farm – on first glance, this is a nice, cheap(ish) day out. You can add on all different types of extra activities which obviously add to the cost, but for a family of 4 with the ‘Book online’ discount it was only £30. The farm, tasting and general atmosphere was great and the cream tea was the best we had all week!
  • Swimming – the only problem we had with swimming was that there is only 1 pool in the surrounding area and you have to book. This meant we had a very sad Jonah when we couldn’t go on the day we’re just turned up. But we booked for the next day and it cost just shy of £30 for the 4 of us for 80 minutes. Not the cheapest but something that is always on our holiday to do list.
  • Truro cathedral – as a God botherer I love any church but this one felt special. From the minute you walk in the staff are helpful but not bothersome and the children’s activities are great. Jonah did 2 different trails which were informative and Grace did I-spy drawing where she had to find different things and draw them. There were a couple of other things to do but our 2 didn’t need more! We were in there for an hour and a half and not once did the children look bored. You can donate if you want to but you don’t have to.
  • Lobster Hatchery – we went really expecting much from this but we really enjoyed it. You get to see the pioneering work that happens to help conserve lobsters and you can adopt one if you want to too! It’s £7.50 per adult, £4 for aged 5-15 and a family ticket is £19.75. This is a 12 month pass too so you can pop back to see your new lobster friends!! There is a £5 ‘meet the expert’ available too but we didn’t manage this.

We’ve had a wonderful week despite the weather trying to ruin it and these places are just a little bit of the reason why.
